The beautiful Valley of a Thousand Hills, comprising the King Parrot Catchment area between Strath Creek and Flowerdale in Central Victoria is home to some of Australia's most endearing wildlife. It was also drastically affected by the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires.
In January 2011 the Upper Goulburn Landcare Network started 'Focus on Fauna', a project that enabled landholders to record and identify wild-life which had taken refuge in remnant patches of bush on private land.
Focus on Fauna utilised motion-sensitive infra-red cameras and digital sound recorders to monitor the nocturnal activities of mammals, birds, frogs and bats. The results excited the whole community with many species thought decimated by the fires found to be alive and thriving on protected private land.
