Deer Park
Purpose: To simulate HD time lapse with a Nikon D80.
Story: I made a record of the decay of a fallen buck in the woods behind my home in Poughkeepsie, NY.
The filming lasted from October, 2008 to April, 2009.
Starring: Maggie the wonder dog.
Method:Nikon D80 crunched in PS CS3 and Sony Vegas. The D80 only shoots 3 frames per sec and it was operated manually.
CS3 extended produces a good Quicktime.MOV HD clip from frames.
I converted these to mp4 using a free version of Streamclip and edited the result in Sony Vegas - rendering
to 1280x720 m2t. Then I used Streamclip again to compress to mp4 for upload.

Looks pretty cool, congratulations .)
Thanks for pushing it over to the "don't suck" channel.
Maggie is in the wood whenever she can - brings back things you wouldn't feed to a dog. 8-)
How long did it take for the whole buck to decay? And I'm also curious if you have coyotes around that were munching on it here and there.
Great stuff!
The buck looked very fresh with a gash in the neck in Feb and was practically a skeleton by the end of March.
I can only speculate on what devoured it. We have seen coyotes but they are rare. I know there are skunks, raccoons, foxes, (dogs?) that could account for it. something was large enough to have dragged the bones 15 feet.
I let Maggie take a few nibbles as seen, but she did was not responsible. Insects only appeared with warm weather in the last few days.
Coyotes are rampant on my family's farm in TN - killed many of the geese, ducks and my family's two prized and very rare black swans.
Again great job!
Woops. I messed up on the dates. I found the deer in November or December of 2008, so it had been exposed to scavengers for about 4 months. It was quite cold so not odor and that means bacteria had little effect on the first stages of decomposition.
Thanks Cherry.
Keep em coming,
jason
Thanks for the encouragement.
