(Description from Dance This 2007 Program)

CU TURE premiered in PNB’s Choreographer’s Showcase in June and is a fashion archetype dance, driven by heavy rhythm and blues beat. A hard- edged, pop culture movement, referred to as “Voguing”, was created originally at the Rikers Island jail and made its way into the gay club scene in New York City. CU TURE takes voguing as a jumping off place and highlights the elements of fashion, society and isolation seen in life.

    I'm so glad i saw that.......thankyou

Multi camera shoot, and editing never distracted my linear enjoyment of the piece....superb..mint

Nice. That's a great comment man. Thanks!

I have a hip-hop dance piece that I still need to upload and I was thinking of also putting up a version that has a little bit of commentary. Would that be interesting you think?

a commentary on the choeography would be cool ...but then I'm a dancer and love it

Ugh! I wish I could get commentary by the choreographers. Ironically the Cu Ture choreographer, Sonia Dawkins, was a little flaky when it came to the production of this video project. We had a hard time getting her to do any interview which is why she is the only choreographer/instructor that isn't in the documentary. AND she somehow managed to be the only performer to not be in costume during the run-thru which is why she has very few shots of her in the doc and Finale dance piece. Maybe that was her point. Maybe she didn't want to be in the video.

    Oh well.

well now it exists she can comment retrospectively innit
  • Ian Lucero 10 months ago
That's the thing. I think I would I have or it would take forever to get a hold of her.

Edit: Just realized that above sentence makes no sense. Anyways... I think she's too busy to get a hold of.

YAY LUCERO! - i can't wait till something is described as 'shot in a luceroian' style
which is kind of funny - cause it's just your name reversed :)
  • Ian Lucero 10 months ago

  • pro, ian. you are a pro. how does it feel to know that you are a pro?
  • Ian Lucero 10 months ago
Being a "Pro" is kind of a weird title. I just do this stuff because it's fun and mostly educational. I get paid, and not much. If that is what I am at this point, a pro, then ok.

Though I don't know what distinguishes a pro from an amateur or pro-am or serious enthusiast or pro-sumer.
  • pay and skill. if you are making a living off of what you are doing and you are doing it well, you are a pro. pay doesnt really have that much to do with it, actually. just skill. you've got the skill to establish a space and document things in an understandable and entertaining way.
