Thanks to Dr. Justin Wilkinson, a scientist with the Crew Earth Observations team at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, we now know what the pinpricks of light are in the Gulf of Mexico. The crew of Expedition 30 on the International Space Station took all these pictures over the course of 15 minutes on January 29, 2012, and the team at the Image Science and Analysis Laboratory, NASA-Johnson Space Center produced the video.
