See all Show me
This is a teaser from the hours of footage I filmed at SXSW interactive 2009 in Austin, Texas. I asked questions about why people were at the conference, any stories they had about the conference and what they are passionate about. This teaser showcases some story snippets. Music is by the Austin, TX based band Spoon, song is "Was It You?" off of the Gimme Fiction album.

Filmed with the Canon 5D Mark II movie mode with a Canon 17-40mm L lens., all footage is untouched, audio needs work as well. This is a work in progress. Audio is from the MKE-400 shotgun mic into the camera(mostly on full, high). The Auto Gain Control was horrible at some times (you might notice). Until that is taken off the camera controls, one would be better off recording sound from another device and sync.

The footage was fed into mpeg streamclip and converted to the 720p Apple Intermediate Codec to edit in Final Cut Express. FCE output was to h.264 quicktime with a 3000 bitrate lock and AAC audio 128kbit at 1280x720 HD for vimeo upload.

Glad the Pizza Incident still brings good memories. Thanks to Garrett for his cool head. Not so much for almost getting us arrested for jaywalking. ;)

It was a large slice of Veggie; pretty much straight out of the oven.

Here's the story (plus a bit more) from my POV.

I would also add that I showed the version you left on my Mac to my CFO at work as a sample/justification for my most recent PO. :)

I can only imagine how awesome the White Oprah Cobra would be if you shot it on the Mk2. I wish you and your PO good luck.

Gabe, great use of the medium. Be sure to have Brian burn a DVD copy for your bosses when the documentary is done. :-)

    Hi Brian,

I found your videos via Mike Rohde's site, and they're great. Your video of SXSW inspired me to rent a Mark II to shoot some a bunch of talking head videos later this month.

When are you going to have the documentary finished? I would love to see it.

Could I ask you a bit of a technical question? I am going to shoot a bunch of interviews (on a tripod) and I had a question around required memory/storage for shooting. I am going to shoot a bunch of stuff, and then give it to an editor to clean up. Do you have any recommendations for flashcards sizes, readers...any tips that you may have picked up.

    Cheers,

    Tom Nagle

This was a cool series of shots. Everybody had it going on and the way you put in the very confused chick, made it great.
