Joe picked a bad time to turn out the lights! That could have ended badly.
  • I know right, how "coincidental" that Paula was eating an apple...or should I say...convenient. It could've ended in a bloodbath, but I didn't want the lens to get all bloody. haha

makes me realise how much you can do with lighting and how much difference it makes. good stuff.
  • Lighting is the part of filmmaking i dislike the most, but also one of the most crucial parts. haha Thanks hun

Film is so much nicer to look at than HD, even when its 2k or 4K and I loved the shot following her down the hallway.

How much did the film stock cost you?
  • Hmm...well since I did this through school, Film, Processing, and Telecine *seem* like they are free..but that's what the $650 course fee is for. Hahaha.

I can fanagle getting 16mm for less than $30 per 100ft roll. Processing $16 without telecine prep...and telecine..you're on your own there...I go through my grad school so it's free..but it could be anywhere to a couple hundred an hour (of telecine time, not footage)

    BASED OUT!

Is the title from the band The Books?
  • Yes it certainly is! I was going to call it "It" but I didn't like it. (haha) This seemed more appropriate.

:) How much feet did you guys shoot with?
  • I actually just shot with one 100ft daylight spool. I shot it in order to try to edit in camera. :-) I actually shot the entire thing in about 75ft, the last 25ft was just BS. When I shoot film I tend to have a 1:1 shooting ratio. :-)
  • Joe Kamimura 6 months ago
I know what you mean! I just shot 400ft. an had like a 1.2:1 shooting ratio, haha. Gotta start uploading the DAT and editing soon! I'd love to see more film footage too !
  • DAT....ewww....! hahhaa. oh man I can't wait.

Yes I love The Books too. this is really awesome. I thought the hide and seek angle was sooooo great! loved the ending. I wish all the times I am scared would end like that :)
  • hahaha oh my god I wish all the times scary things like that would result in being "it" instead of murders. hahaha

I like how video, film and HD have distinctive looks that can be used decisively and create surreal moods. I think Film was the right decision for this. Question, where is your training from (Bachelors)?
  • I'm getting my Masters (MFA) in Cinematography at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I got my Bachelor(s) in: Psychology, Media Studies, and Film Studies (Theory, not production) at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

    Thanks :-)
