ANSGAR WILKEN (DE) | Cello
[art003] Ansgar Wilken · Timelessness Fakes
Ansgar Wilken plays his cello as if it was a guitar. He’s learned finger-picking at the age of 13 and has developed his significant style since then. This is Minimal, Blues, Ethno in a rigorous corset. Wilken is part of several bands and projects (Ilse Lau, Anton Tornister, Julijuni, Pneumo Twins). He runs the vinyl-only label Happy Zloty Records as well as Krankrosine Records. Furthermore you find his illustrations & paintings on:
"This cello programme especially developed for 'Salon Bruit', works with the instrument as sound box, with the potential of its inner space, with the tonal multitude of feedbacks and also with the underlying danger of uncontrolled outbursts. The cello as an instrument is not only connected with a clearly defined musical genre but beyond that, with a clearly defined expectation towards its sound - but it can do differently. Unpredictability is not turned into a principle but welcome - tonal physicality doesn't need a dominating instrumentalist. All that counts in the end - the outcome - at its best: consequence."
