This time-lapse video shows the eruption (2 seconds into the video) of Redoubt Volcano on April 4 2009. In the plume you can see the flicker of lightning. The ash cloud then moves toward the camera (set up under my yurt in Seldovia, Alaska) and coats the snow in gray. The second clip shows the snow melting as the sun comes out. The video slows after the first few seconds because the frame rate increases--the camera needed to use longer exposures in the low light before dawn.
