Telecarpets is a two-site interactive live installation that share common audio assets, and by providing the chance of playing together, it becomes the common audio channel of a new musical interface (the single carpet on one site). Moreover the piece functions also as a social interaction game on various levels. On a local level the carpet gathers its participants and invites to play along by touching a certain pattern on the carpet, also by touching each other's skin and in general it invites for free musical improvisation (no musical skills are needed). On the level of the two connected spaces the participants are becoming a part of an interplay, where the two separate groups of people are having a special intercommunication via audio. On this level the various backgrounds of the participants vanish totally, as they are not seeing each other, only communicating by the created sounds. So in this sense Telecarpets has a dual power: by being an experimental telepresence musical interface, but also by being a social interaction and integration 'gadget', which is filled with playfulness.
