HD Aerobatics at Tutima Academy
This is Tom's first aerobatic flight in a small airplane. He's recently started taking flying lessons in a Cessna 172, but we arranged for him and Guneet (the other student in our documentary) to take a flight with Ben Freelove, who is a full-time aerobatic instructor at Sean D. Tucker's Tutima Academy of Aerobatics in King City, California, as well as a part-time performer on the airshow circuit with The Collaborators aerobatic team (consisting of Sean D. Tucker, Eric Tucker, Bill Stein and Ben Freelove.)
In this sequence, Ben takes Tom through a multitude of aerobatic maneuvers in the Pitts S-2B Biplane, including rolls, a flat spin, loops, a hammerhead, Cuban 8 and a Lomchevak.
The footage was filmed in full 1080p resolution with the Sony XHR-MC1 HD Point-of-View camera mounted between the center struts of the 260hp Pitts, which was doing well over 180mph at times during the flight.
The music is a segment of "I Disappear" by The Faint.
Crew photography by Miikka Skaffari.
