Music is "The Bells Play The Band" by Bell Orchestre. The space is Ground Zero gzbasement.net 20 minutes before a Friday night open mic.

It works like a long-exposure time-lapse camera that is more sensitive to things that are moving. Inter-frame motion is calculated and used for warping between frames, and the running average is weighted by a blurred difference frame.

To do this "properly", you'd need view registration and foreground/background separation etc., so only things in motion relative to the ground are blurred.

nice..the music worked a lot better for this one, and the short length was really nice..id like to see a whole one based on rotation around things..reminds me of that video from that empac event..i beleive it was called 'you gonna want me' by tiga or something..it had really cool spinning/light burn effects..is this possible with color also? im surprised your digital camera could hold 20min of video..i could get access to an hd camera if you'd like, haha

I haven't seen that Tiga video before -- it's basically exactly what I want. Except Oliver Gondry, as best I can tell, used a bunch of cameras (The Matrix "bullet time" style) to do it. I want to do it with one camera.

I can do this with color too, I just shot this video in infrared and decided it looked better in greyscale.

The hd camera would be cool, but I really don't feel like deinterlacing :)

I forget who said it, but I think this video definitely will be kind of nostalgic one day.
