Within the Schola Cantorum on Hudson (SCH) season theme of Healing, 'Thresholds' is the annual ethnic focus on a specific culture. The centerpiece of 'Thresholds' is the premiere of the chamber version of a six-movement cantata by Bellagio Resident Fellow Andrea Clearfield's 'Tse Go La' (‘At the threshold of this life’)
Tse Go La derives its inspiration from the composer’s experiences studying chant and folk music in the Tibetan community of Lo Monthang, located in a remote and restricted Himalayan region of Nepal (research funded by the Rubin Foundation). The poetry and music, previously unheard by western ears, was documented by Clearfield and anthropologist Katey Blumenthal. Additionally, 'Tse Go La' incorporates new texts by Sienna Craig, a noted anthropologist and researcher of Tibetan society, culture and history.
Also joining SCH will be
2012 Cantorum Young Singers ensemble,
Caldwell College Choir, Dr. Laura Greenwald, Director.
Other repertoire includes
'Life is a Circle' by SCH Featured Composer Ivo Antognini,
'My Flight for Heaven’ by Blake R. Henson.
