Touchatag, formerly known as tikitag until February 09, comes out of the Alcatel-Lucent incubator. They are based in Antwerp, Belgium. At the core of the services is the touchatag Application Correlation Server (ACS) which manages the link between an RFID tag and a corresponding action to be initiated. When an RFID enabled device touches the RFID tag, it automatically connects with the touchatag server. The ACS then directs the internet-enabled device to access the appropriate online content and applications. Touchatag can be used in a variety of environments linking an object to information stored on the Internet to provide information about the object. For example a visitor to a museum may wave his mobile phone at a work of art and the see the Wikipedia profile appear on their phone.
I'm looking into uses for this kind of linking capability in West Africa. The tag might be used to trigger a video recording, or upload a completed audio file to a local radio station. These guys have competition, but they seem to be the furthest in rolling something easy to use out to the consumer
