A public commission to work with Irish experimental music composer Roger Doyle for a performance of his music projected in Meeting House Square in Dublin in 2002, a group of us selected sound sections from a five cd piece of work titled Babel, this was my contribution for an extract called Spirit Levels. This is an attempt at a visual depiction of the mood in the sound. In hindsight one of my regrets about this piece was a little accident at 1:14 where a glitch occurred through my processing of the image and I embellished it and recomposited it into my work. This is my favourite bit but only lasts less than a second! I wish that I explored this accidental breakdown more at the time, but the turnaround on this project was sfa.
Other contributers to the memorable event were Eoghan Kidney, Andy Clarke, Fergal Brennan and Tim Redfern. Its interesting to note that Roger Doyle was an anathema to the Irish Arts Scene, which at the time was pretty dull scene on the whole. I remember seeking funding for my studies to a scheme called the millenium scholars trust in 2002. I showed this film, little did I know that every C-lister Irish celebrity, hack creative consultant and clueless banker on the panel ALL hated Roger Doyle and by extension this film. They were seething and snide to me even though I didn't know Roger I was just commissioned to visualize the sound. I didn't get the funding. I got the hell out of Ireland.
