This is the Achromat-less JAG that we currently have in stock. It love the fact that its shorter than the Pro and since it has one less layer of glass in the light path it actually looses less light than the Pro. Its really noticeable when shooting indoors, the HF-s10 is more sensitive than the hv30 but AVCHD does not encode blacks as good as HDV, this of course in my opinion with my short experience with this cameras.

What is the pros and cons, picture quality wise - with the Achromat-less JAG35? (model E?) on the hf-s10.

Hehe I'm usually around that area couple days out of the week. Very clean images, although the edges are a bit soft. I'd love to see more footage from the JAG35SP because I'm considering purchasing one sometime in the next 2 weeks.

Did you use 2 step-up rings to get to 58mm from 43mm in this sample footage?
  • jehu Garcia plus 9 months ago
No what i did was glue a 58-62mm step up ring to the 43-58mm the adapter has. I haven't been able to find 58-43mm step down so it seems that using 2 step rings or gluing is the only solutions right now.

Had same sort of question but "step-up" means away from the camera doesn't it (43-55mm step-up means 43 is towards camera and 55 is away)? I build my own 35mm, vibrating DOF adapter but it has a 43-55mm step up (55mm part towards DOF adapter, 43 to camera) with an achromat inside it for my HV20. Now I am trying to connect it to my HF S10. Best way to fix the? Should I go with 2 step-downs from the 58mm size on the HF S10 to the 43mm size on the DOF or should I rebuild the achromat section (if it get's me more light or anything).

    Thanks.

if your achromat is bigger than 40mm then rework the mounting so that you don't restrict the light through a 43mm whole which the camera will be able to see if you dont zoom in a bit. If its not bigger then just use step rings and zoom in
  • Scott Baronial 8 months ago
That's what I thought (which is why I already bought the step-down rings). The achromat is 40mm. The problem I keep having with mine is soft corners. I have been looking at your adapters but do they do the same thing (soft corners)? I would really like to have a clean, crisp image.

    Thanks!

yeah I don't think its possible to have perfect edge to edge sharpness with adapters this short, What the big boys like letus, cinevate, redrock, and Shoot35 do to get it is add the flip prisms which adds length to the optical path, it esentially makes the adapter 8-10" long, so thats how its done. I see some barrel distortions on my adapters but its not too bad.

Do you change focus with the Jag or the camera itself?
  • jehu Garcia plus 8 months ago
cameras focus is locked, all focus is doe on the 35mm SLR lens

I have a question about the jag35pro.. does the 40mm achromat effect the vignetting compared to the 43mm achromat? thanks
  • jehu Garcia plus 7 months ago
I only use 34mm achromats on the 37mm threaded JAGs and 40mm achromats on 43mm threaded JAGs, there is no 43mm achro. The vignetting you'll get if any will be from your SLR lens, some lenses vignette more than others.

sharpness and low light what do you prefer the hv30 or the hfs10. I got the hv30 over the hfs10, one because I like tape. I got for 600 bucks with about 400 bucks in vital accessories, plus I feel so happy that the price went from 600 to 900 within two weeks. So I was lucky enough to get it at the lower price right before the vast increase.
  • jehu Garcia plus 7 months ago
HF-s10 is sharper and more sensitive, but hv30 is a good camera

hey jehu i might actually exchange my hv30 for an hfs100 (the manual gain is a real killer for me).

    Hi jehu
I think you have a superior product line. Unfortunately the customer service is weak. I tried contacting you guys through different channels about purchasing one of you DOF adapters.
2weeks ago was my initial contact. Then several days later a member of your staff kevin contacted me on Vimeo and had me resubmit my question to your site, I submitted my question both to his vimeo page and to the site and 5 days later still no reply.
This is sad because I really could have used your adapter for a wedding coming this Saturday but at this point I give up.

I think you are doing amazing work take care.
