It’s the latest and greatest in medical imaging.

“This is one of the Cadillac of MRI scanners, this is the flagship,” says Dr. Cory Duffek, a radiologist on the medical staff of Lee Memorial Health System.

Tesla scanners use the highest grade of technology to create crystal clear images at lightning speed.

“It has a top of the line gradient system in it and then also the coil technology which is our antenna gives us increased signal which we can then use to image faster,” says Dr. Duffek.

This advanced technology can cut scanning time in half.

“It’s not uncommon for a patient to need an MRI basically from the neck all the way down and that used to be a very time intensive process where we’d have to move the antenna from the neck over the chest and then finally over the abdomen. Now we can put the patient in the scanner and just keep moving them in so we can get multiple scans more quickly,” says Dr. Duffek.

For the right patient, these super scanners can fast track detection like never before.

“MRIs of their abdomen or pelvis - we’re seeing a dramatic increase in the image quality that we’re getting. We’re able to make diagnoses that we weren’t able to make using traditional techniques,” says Dr. Duffek.

Not every patient or every condition needs the super-charged MRI. Some people, like children, larger patients and claustrophobics may be better suited for the super-sized, open MRI.

“This machine can image almost anyone. If you’re concerned about comfort it’s much more important to have this machine. You have the open configuration yet the capabilities to do all the specialty examinations,” says Dr. John Rodriguez, medical director of outpatient imaging for Lee Memorial Health System.

The results are clear, there is an advanced medical imaging system for everyone.
