Cool stuff David! Where did you got that camera?
  • David Coiffier plus 3 years ago
Thx Sylvain! Actually I do not own such a camera. This is a very expensive model, that is developped by friends. That's how I put hands on it sometimes...

    It's so good!
  •
  • Very cool. Would be cool to see you do a crazy cool concept with this. I kind of wish there wasn't a slice of jello or anything at the end because it turned into a "look what this camera can do" rather than the cool slow motion event that was going on in the beginning. Still very cool. You can definitely pull something cool off like the opening credits of "The Fall". I hope to see more soon! Take care!
  • David Coiffier plus 3 years ago
Thanx for your comment Matt. You are pretty right about the jelly thing. I didn't think that way, but I see what you mean. In fact every single shot is just for now a "look what this camera can do" thing. You're also right about getting a real idea to do real crazy things with it. But I don't have an easy access to the cam, as there is only one model available...
But we have 2 or 3 things in mind, and now I'm just waiting for cam to be back from NAB to have fun on a real project.

    Take care too!
  • Gabriel Shalom plus 3 years ago
My dream project for such a camera would only make sense with an equally fast playback system...does one exist that will playback and project at high frame rates? Perhaps a customized software player...?

    quantumcinema.blogspot.com/2008/09/temporal-resolution.html
  • David Coiffier plus 3 years ago
Gabriel, can you tell me why you're interested in hispeed playback ? As far as I understand, above 50fps, eyes can't match more temporal resolution, so you would give extra frames that couldn't be seen...
But I'm sure you have the complete theory, so please go ahead...

would love to see a car crash test or glass breaking. i'm pretty sure this is something the auto industry would love to have.

also: capturing a bullet being fired from a gun.

  • Steve 3 years ago
Nice music selection...I've always loved that song ..its from the Dolche Vida album right?
  • David Coiffier plus 3 years ago
Thanx Steve! About the music...well...I'm afraid this has no relation with any Dolce Vita thing I know, but I also may be wrong...
It is a piece performed by Gotan Project, and named "Chunga's Revenge". This piece was originally wrote and performed by Frank Zappa, some 40 years ago now.
Anyway, I'm quite happy you liked it, that's the most important thing! :)

Outstanding! I am speechless! What kind of sensor does the camera use? I have seen footage from Red One at 120 fps, nothing like this.

    Thanks for your comments Dominic!

  • Tungsteno Films plus 3 years ago
    amazing!,

I downloaded the video and speed it up with FCP to 1000!
It was STILL in slowmotion!!! hahaha
  • David Coiffier plus 3 years ago
Are you telling me that camera was running faster than 1000 FPS ??
  • Tungsteno Films plus 3 years ago
I don´t know what that means! hahaha
I just load it with FCP and speed it up to "1000" and the video was still in slowmotion though it was obviously faster...
  • Christopher Herff 3 years ago
The speed is in percent, so speeding it to 1000% would only be 10x faster than regular speed, or about 300 frames per second, or slowed down by 70% of regular time.. Roughly 1 second would be stretched over 3.3 seconds instead of 33.
  • David Coiffier plus 3 years ago
On a 25fps basis, 1000fps means 40x slower, so to get normal speed you choose speed these shots x40, or 4000%.
On a 30fps basis, speed should be raised to 3333% to get realtime again...

Thanx Christopher, I didn't think Pedro was talking about speed percentage...

  • Daniel Bates 3 years ago
It's made by I-Movix. Sprint (the wireless provider) has no connection to the camera, besides the name.

    hey david,
If you have the time, could you post a behind the scenes video of you and your buddies working this camera? or do you have a link to something you have already put together explaining this intense acquisition process? must be a pain to send this gigantic data files through the computer so you have something that can be edited with an nle.

i have used the phantom v12.1 camera (inertia unlimited, time warp) and the images on the "sprintcam" are much better. great shallow dof too.

i will be at nab and will look for your booth.
