Dong is an experimental music instrument for deaf and hearing people to experience vibration and can be used for different educational or therapeutic purposes. Dong makes use of percussion samples which are triggered by bending felt-covered sensors. 16 sensors are able to create 32 different sounds, all with a unique and long lasting vibration. The vibrations are felt through the hands, upper legs and stomach. The sensors can be played individually, experiencing the vibration of each percussion instrument, or together to create a certain soundscape.
Made using Arduino and Pure Data. Special thanks to Lisa for helping us out with the programming.
Dong was created by Rosa Laaijsto, Tong Ren and Maarten den Breeijen during the course Interactive Prototyping '12 at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture.
