Mike McCann a Christian, a Geologist, a Scientist dialogues with Reba Boyd Wooden, an Atheist, Executive Director for the Center For Inquiry Indiana ( an atheist belief & worldview organization ). In this dialogue Mike McCann challenges that there is a difference between religion and a relationship with God the creator. He also challenges that a Moral Consciousness couldn't have come from a purely mechanical universe. Both talk about the meaning and purpose of life. Mr. McCann shows that Science and Religion can coexist, they are not mutually exclusive. Ms. Wooden has a hard time describing her worldview without borrowing words and terms from the Christian Worldview. Ms. Boyd believes that the material universe is all we have and that someone doesn't need God to be a moral person. This discussion also covers how a rational thinking being could evolve from an irrational universe, moreover that the fact that we are rational thinkers is the evidence of a creator God. Ms. Boys supposes that the rational humans evolved and survived and irrational persons died off due to natural selection. Both agree that Reason ordered the Universe. Natural processes do not have to contradict the hand of God, Mr. McCann shows how there is not a dichotomy between the scientific statements that give mechanism, while religions statements give meaning and purpose thus reconciling the natural and supernatural world with science. Mr. McCann states that it's foolish to argue with the facts, but would be rather arrogant to assume that we have all the facts. Mr. McCann challenges "how could a moral universe evolve out of a material universe".
