So, this is really my first-time test with short movie sequences. I've sometimes uploaded movie versions of my photostories but they were only using still images.

We shot this footage besides the regular photo-session, just for fun. I was more of a test to see how my new camera can handle this (Canon EOS 5D Mark II). Control is still rather primitive with this camera at the moment, I've used an old manual lens to control the DOF. Directing the model is also quite different.

I'm not planning to do long movies - I'll still work with photos most of the time but you can probably expect more short clips movies like this one.

Oh, and I've composed the music, as usual.

I hope that you'll like this first test.

I would like to thank the CGN for lending us the "Rhône" Belle Epoque boat.

The 5D is actually quite a good little video camera considering it's an extra feature.

There was a comparison somewhere comparing it to the RED cameras. RED won out in most categories (you'd expect it to for the price) but in a low light setting the 5D did arguably better. I forget where the link was though.

  • I do agree, Richard. As an add-on value, the quality is very nice, but the lack of control isn't much enjoyable at the moment.

Very very nice, strange to see 4x3 framing with 5D footage but I think it really suits the clip well done.
