With two of my pals, Hannah Joe and Sarah Wolfe, we created this piece titled On the Shelf for our senior project at Otis College of Art and Design.
For On the Shelf, we went to the Westchester Senior Center right down the street from us and spent the day with the seniors. We recorded the dialogue from our unscripted interviews and designed inanimate objects according to their voice persona. Our conversations inspired us to focus our attention on the generational gap in our society and how we often overlook the value of our elders. Similarly, because technology advances as time passes and things become part of the past very quickly, we designed our characters as old appliances. We tend to get so caught up in getting the new this and that, we sometimes forget about appreciating what is already there in front of us.
They have so much wisdom and interesting things to say! So hopefully, through our project we shed a little light their way. Thank you Michael, Carl, and Westchester Senior Center for your time and lending us your wonderful voices!
