Puja is the ritual act of making an offering, setting an intention and receiving a blessing.
Shown in a simple cloth shrine, ecstatic with light, poised magestically above a scrying pool,
Maitreya the future Buddha tantrik totem is a devotional icon/sculpture/painting
(as much in the spirit of sacred buddhist art as Red Grooms, Do Ho Suh and
William Morris). Traditionally, Maitreya (loving kindness) is
portrayed as an elegant transcendent male seated gracefully high in
Tusita heaven, which one can ascend to by deep meditation on the
future Buddha in Tusita, the fourth heaven in the realm of desire. I
have always visualized Maitreya, as a woman. It just feels right that
the future Buddha is a woman. Returning (Now) as a compassionate
teacher ushering in an enlightened golden age of Buddha-Dharma. At a
recent Munay-ki ceremony, at White Owl Farm, the beeutiful and wise
godess Uniami aka MiSelf, suggested that, perhaps, my vision stems
from the fact that Maitreya is, indeed, Mother Earth, herself.
Accompanying the lovely mini-shrine will be a small ceremonial puja
pulpit. Puja is the ritual act of making an offering, setting an
intention and receiving a blessing. This devotion activates the divine
presence of the venerated deity within a sacred space. Many Buddhists
and Hindus believe that the more perfect the representation of the
god, the more pure the worship. Art is a stepping stone to the cosmos
within us. Blessed bee.
