“Re-lease” is a short film piece that explores the conception of freedom through dance, sound and lighting.
It experiments on several levels with an unconventional narrative. The body movements, the music and the use of studio and outdoor lighting all work together to tell the story of the entrapped human in today’s society, struggling with internal fights and searching for freedom. Although the film starts as a dark piece, the emotions change with the speeding up of the pace, the soundtrack and the change from the closed space to the outdoors. It is supposed to convey the positive message that everyone is able to be free.
The title comes from the phrase “a new lease on life”, which means a substantially improved chance to lead a happy or successful life. “RE-lease” in the sense I am using it will stand for rediscovering the possibility to lead a successful life. It is a reference that everyone can be happy if they try to reach out for their own freedom.
