I filmed this video with the help of Sam Long using 3 GoPro Cameras aboard the 98ft Queenship Acero Azul. The first portion of the movie shows the drive from newport Beach to Cabo San Lucas in small increments. I decided to be bold and drive all the way to Cabo with my great friend Austin. The drive is not for the week or weary. All the fishing is out of Puerto Los Cabos marina where the Acero Azul has been for a little over a month. I work on the boat as the Chef and second Captain. I hope you enjoy because we certainly enjoyed filming it! The highlights of this video are an extremely rare Oar Fish that we found still alive. We killed it because it was going to die anyways. They are almost never seen alive. Only washed up on beaches decomposed. We were all in shock at the bizarre beauty and colors of this fish. At some point it had been bitten in half. It was all healed over with scar tissue. The Oar Fish would have been twice as long otherwise. We donated the specimen to the Scripps institute who has it now. They are studying it to get a better knowledge of the species. There is also a mount being made by a Taxidermist in San Diego so it can always be remembered. The other highlight was the baby thresher shark that we delivered from the mother that sad to say we killed and ate. When I cut her open out came that little baby. He swam in our bait tank until it was strong enough to survive on its own. we sent him back to the deep!
