The April 18 racing card at Remington Park was flush with stakes races including the $203,509 Remington Park Derby which went to the late-running Rarely Makes It Home.
Owned by Mari George’s Circle S Ranch of Terre Haute, Ind., Rarely Makes It Home is trained by Mark Barnes and ridden to a nose victory by Stormy Smith. The 3-year-old filly overcame a bump at the start from an inside rival, then rallied to get up on the outside, winning a photo-finish over Spit Curl Diva who had led from the outset. King Brimmerton finished third.
Rarely Makes It Home handled 400 yards in 19.568 seconds.
The derby win for Rarely Makes It Home is her fourth career triumph from eight starts. She has three wins at Remington Park. The 3-year-old Indiana-bred filly by Make It Anywhere from the Rare Form mare Rarely Home provided all of her connections with their first Remington Park Derby win.
