CAN THE VOICE OF ONE PERSON INSPIRE PEOPLE TO SING THEIR OWN SONGS?
WHAT WOULD THOSE PEOPLE LOOK LIKE?
WHAT WOULD THEIR SONG SOUND LIKE?

I created this media for a 2-channel video installation to experiment in creating a soundscape appropriating footage of various people singing the same song. Initially I attempted to do this with only a capella recordings but found that the pacing was off. So I began to incorporate recordings set to karaoke music.

I had to let go of any vision of the sound being perfect and began to play around with pairing unlikely duets and utilizing what almost become vocal rounds at points. For the most part I am fairly satisfied with the results I got from this first experiment. Were I to do a project like this again--and I will!--I would like to record my own sound for the piece.

The installation itself was rather unsuccessful as I forgot to adjust the opacity levels on the Whitney footage, which made it difficult to see the people singing. The piece tows the line between being an emotional homage to the late Ms. Houston and a ridiculous montage of YouTube spectacle. Ultimately, this is what I see as being the best way to view the work.
