In my opinion, there is a fair amount of noise, but image detail is strong. Other camcorders sacrifice image detail even though they might deliver less noise. I agree with Harald that manual control options are not as good as they could be.
What kind of night shot are you thinking about.
When I import the files direct from the camcorder, the filed are saved as .mts files.
The problem here is that I can't open these files to any other program than the program that followed the camcorder (ImageMixer 3 Se Ver.5), which doesn't work with my small PC.
I also tried to open the files on a Mac, iMovie 09, but this doesn't work either.
Hope you can help me!
