Indoor plants are often used as a way to decorate an interior, why is it that it tends to be these tropical species that we have lying around our homes? Maybe it makes us feel like were somewhere we’d rather be. It’s also said that plants contribute to making you a happier person. I wanted to make a work that gave off happiness; when you see it – you laugh. The ‘toy’ is a flashing futuristic looking device that vibrates the entire piece; so requires ‘bonding’ to its plinth with a ratchet. Its bordering the lines of fetish taboo; an object of secrecy; things that people have but don’t tend to talk about; like plants. We know they’re there; we just rarely acknowledge them. I think its also interesting to think about what plants of the future might be like? If the climate were to change; what effect would this have on our nature. I’ve also tried to comment on how British culture is becoming more accepting of the likes of Ann Summer and the sex toy industry. Compared to 100 years ago; what does this change tell us about the Future?
I think Art works best when you have to question whether the thing you’re looking at is Art or not? I’m don’t yet understand the full definition of sculpture or what I think can be classed as sculpture or Installation. I like the thought that my work is alive and growing and is inevitably; going to change.
