This is from the May 22, 2012 Q&A Webinar for Make The Cut!
00:00:00 Welcoming Remarks
00:00:50 Discussion on Cutters available to work with MTC
00:06:30 Node Editing after doing a pixel trace on an image with texture
Notes: hold down the “D” key to see back image while trying to align two images; to retain the texture when joining shapes, make sure that the textured image is on the top layer
00:16:52 Bryan explains why you cannot edit an original shape that has texture without distorting the texture its self
00:24:45 Bryan reviews how auto-smoothing works when trying to edit an image with texture (it has to do with the offsets of an image when first brought in)
00:30:45 Julie gives a demonstration of making a box with intertwined hearts on edge of lid and a popup flower in the middle (See also Julie’s written tutorials at MTC_Tuts Yahoo Group. 2 lessons – 1 for making the box is in the Advanced Lessons – Lesson IV.15, the 1 for making pop-up flower is in the intermediate files – Lesson III.30.A)
01:33:25 Andy’s general discussion and demonstration on doing a manual trace on an image that is too small, too faded, or just too poor of an image to do a regular pixel trace on (he has been doing this for friends restoring old bikes and need to recreate the bike decal). Andy is working with digital photos of the old bike decals and does a “manual trace” with the pencil tool in the node editing tools. (Notes: Andy uses the pencil tool with the control key to get straight lines. He also turns “snapping” off). Andy demonstrates doing this with a graphic of an elephant he found that is too small and too lightly colored to get a good pixel trace from.
01:57:00 Andy reshows how to get the “textured image” onto the MTC mat by using a basic square and changing its “texture” to the image you want to work with (notes: make sure the “tiling” feature is turned off by unchecking it when importing as texture (default is checked). Hold down the “shift key” while scaling textures up or down in size to also size the texture with the image. You cannot rotate an image which has texture inside MTC and retain the texture properly. You need to do that outside of MTC before importing it in.)
02:03:40 Andy gives a demonstration of tracing racing stripes on a Mini Cooper from a photo
