500 PORTRAITS Part 1: The Manufacture. Jill Holder.
500 x 10cm sq paintings, mixed media created in five days. Feb 2009.
Artist: Jill Holder
I came across this exhibition in a Shepherd Neame pub in Faversham, Kent, England.
It looked interesting, so I asked the bar staff what it was all about.
They explained:
Part 1 is the creation (and exhibition in this pub) of the portraits (created in 5 days, 500 in 5 days).
Part 2 is the distribution and display of the individual portraits throughout the town of Faversham, in effect making the whole city an art gallery. To be displayed in home windows, store windows, wherever one can be displayed!
Part 3 is the dissemination of the portraits throughout the country and hopefully world, whether it be through a portrait being found in the trash somewhere and picked up or through an admirer taking one home to Scotland or wherever with them.
'interesting, huh?
