On December 9, 2011, Big Dudee Roo opened for Donna the Buffalo at The Intersection in Grand Rapids, MI. We were deeply honored to have Dave McCracken, keyboardist for DTB, sit in with us on our song “Making Memories,” filling it out brilliantly. This is a recording of that live performance.
Much of the video chronicles our past year as a band, including footage from the recording of our album Listen to Your Discontent at the Petersen Barn in Rockford, MI, this performance of "Making Memories" at the Intersection, and shows at Founder’s and Bell’s breweries. Since those three magical days in August, 2011 when we made the album at the barn, it’s been a time of significant growth for us, and we’re incredibly thankful that Jon Mollema at Shortstack Media has been there to document it all with the great film, stills and time lapses that you see here.
Mixed in with this footage are 8mm home videos of my own family recorded back in the 60’s and 70’s, at home in West Michigan or on some of their many road trips. The words of this song are largely informed by the lives of my Uncle Al and Grandpa Bill, who are seen in many of these clips. I’d like to dedicate this video to the memory of my Grandpa, and to all the members of my family, in whom “Wild” Bill’s wisdom and positive attitude toward life live on.
