"Study No.14" (1983, 3:03, NTSC analog video de-interlaced for Vimeo) is one of a series of absolute videographic compositions created via the multitracking of improvised real time performance with a standard broadcast video switcher. The intention was to explore the affect made possible through the architectonic structuring of the basic elements of color, shape, texture, and rhythm.
Robert Campbell was commissioned to create the musical track with a request that the music serve as accompaniment in order to assure that the visual would take the primary affective role rather than the opposite. Bob accomplished this task with great sensitivity, and in the end, the result was a perfectly balanced synergy.
