Northeast Historic Film: Dozens of fountains tossed the Flushing River into the air. Of the national pavilions ringing the Lagoon of Nations, many countries no longer existed autonomously by the second year of the Fair - France, Ethiopia, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Lithuania had all been annexed or invaded. World War II loomed for Americans, even as color photography, nylon, air conditioning, fluorescent lamps and Smell-O-Vision debuted at the Fair.
