Kevin McCabe, director of the Center for the Study of Neuroeconomics
and professor of economics, law and neuroscience at George Mason
University, teaches Economics of the Metaverse (ECON 496), a course in
which lessons, field trips and presentations are completed from within
the virtual world.
The class is conducted using a program similar to Second Life, a
three-dimensional social networking world that employs avatars to
communicate with other users. During the course, students participate
in experiments where they trade virtual goods with other students.
