An exercise inspired by Shawn Knol's Oil in Water - vimeo.com/4281374

I used a Cannon Rebel XT with a bunch of macro filters taped to the front of it's factory lens.

The footage is Oil, Milk, Fairy Liquid and Food Dye in a big glass bowl full of water.

I lit it with two large diffused lamps.

The music is a guitar doing the swells while my iPhone dishes out some glitches on the brand new modular synth app Jasuto! It's amazing! vimeo.com/3989978

    sweeeeet!

    how'd you like dealing with the 350d's buffer? i know it can be a headache at times. the more color information your subject has, the larger the jpegs will be too. i find if my subject is moving slow, like my ferrofluid and the ice videos, i can use a shutter speed slower than 1/3 of a second, that way the fps is slow enough to keep going until it fills up my memory card.

    I had the shutter running as fast as it would go which is why it looks much choppier than your oil vid I suppose. I'm interested in slow moving subject matter just like you mention, with the framerate sped up in post to give a fluid appearance. I have a plan that involves thick paints and motor oil brewing, I'll post the results as soon as I get round to it, thanks for the inspiring vids by the way Shawn, did you stumble on the technique / process yourself or were you similarly urged on by a lovely video?

    found it myself, while doing the methylene video. at first i just wanted to make a short animated .gif file. then, once i saw that if i drop the image size down, how long of a sequence i could make, it just took off from there.

    Filmore East! Fairy Liquid is Washing up liquid, we pour it into the kitchen sink when we need to wash the dishes!
