For well over 30 years musician Ralph Peterson as been on the front-lines as both a educator, musician, and friend of jazz music. Peterson came on the music scene in the 1980’s at a time when the “Young Lions” dominated the jazz scene here in New York City and abroad. He was blessed to be taught, mentored, and befriend both master drummers Art Blakey and Michael Carvin who’ve had an impact on him both musically and personally. Ralph has even blessed the stage with other great jazz luminaries like Betty Carter, Stanley Turrentine, Terence Blanchard, Branford Marsalis, and Michael Brecker just to name a new.
Just recently Ralph reached a milestone in his career as well as life. He just turned 50 and celebrated this important event with friends and family at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola in New York City with the release of his latest disc “The Duality Perspective,” which is on Onyx Productions. The new disc features both the sextet and ‘Fotet’ with trumpeter Sean Jones, saxophonists Tia Fuller and Walter Smith III, bassist Luques Curtis, and pianist Zaccai Curtis.
As a musician Ralph decided to create a form a label where he continues produce and release music he believes needs to be heard and exposed. “The Duality Perspective” is the first of many releases that music fans will come to appreciate from the master drummer in the next few years.
