Hummingbird at Sunset
I went out and sat in my front yard yesterday evening, filming these huge flowers that have grown up in my front yard area - when this hummingbird came to feed. I followed her as quietly and smoothly as I could with my EX1/Redrock Encore combo while hunkered down in the bushes, waiting to see what she'd do next. She hung out for a long time, fed off of some other flowers then came back, fed some more and flew off.
I don't know what kind of flowers these are, but my girlfriend (who took a botany class recently) did tell me that they are red and yellow for a reason. Although hummingbirds are attracted to both red and yellow, they are more attracted to yellow than anything else. Once each blossom opens up, it turns yellow to let the birds know they can feed off of it, thus helping to pollinate the plant as soon as it has bloomed. Pretty sweet, eh?
Shot with the Canon 135mm f/2.0 FD, and uploaded at full 1080p resolution. Honestly this file looks pretty horrible due to Vimeo's post-upload compression, so feel free to download the file for a better-than-vimeo viewing experience :)

Love the way the colors pop on the flower. I guess it goes to show that it never hurts to be sitting around with your rig!
