The Bridge to Hope

The Bridge to Hope

Curtis Emde

Thirty years ago, Sylvester Stallone, as Vietnam vet John Rambo, pulled up his collar and walked with bitter determination in the rain across an old wooden bridge. This simple act of defiance lead to pure carnage as Rambo was pushed too far by a small town sheriff. Stallone's walk across the bridge has since passed into cinema legend and the film, First Blood, based on the best-selling debut novel by author David Morrell, has spawned blockbuster sequels.

First Blood was filmed in Hope, British Columbia. Not long ago, the town council announced plans to remove the sixty-odd-year-old bridge, citing public safety & environmental concerns.

Therefore, on a sunny weekend in July 2011, fans of the film from around the world held a farewell event for the bridge on the eve of its demolition. This video is their story.
