Paddy on the Erie is the story of the Irish immigrant who went to work for the railroad. The trials and tribulations, including the death of his wife are typical of what happened to many Irish families in the 1840s and throughout the nineteenth century. This melody would have been known by The Molly Maguires in the Anthracite Coal Patch towns near Eckley Miners' Village in Pennsylvania. Many sets of words were made up to this tune. KentCourtney.com
