Walking 10K to gather unfiltered water from the Ngwavuma River to use for cooking, cleaning and drinking, was a daily ritual for the women of Tibane, Swaziland. But thanks to those who purchased products from Shopping for a Change® during our inaugural year, we were able to make their dream of having access to clean water, a reality for this rural community.
The Tibane Clean Water Project had its ribbon cutting ceremony and pumped its first water on October 20, 2011. A collaborative effort between the community itself who invested their own money and manpower, Shopping for a Change®, Unicef, Water Gives Life—an Australian licensed Charity, Gone Rural boMake—the nonprofit arm to our artisan group Gone Rural, along with Unicef who donated the pump, made this project possible. This new water system is expected to service the 400 people of Tibane and nearby Homesteads for 20 years.
Together we have truly improved the lives of our less fortunate neighbors. shoppingforachange.org
