Concerned residents from across the state attended the SC Senate K-12 Education subcommittee on April 23, 2009 to support school choice options in S.520.
This father from Greenville County is the parent of a dyslexic 2nd grader.
He told the subcommittee, "I believe that my remarks could be made by any parent of the estimated 5000 students with dyslexia currently attending the Greenville County Schools," also noting that this condition affects as much as 10% of the population.
He says that because his son's needs cannot be met through the current educational system, he is likely to relocate his business and family to neighboring North Carolina -- leaving behind his church, the non-profit board of which he is a member, and the network he built through his business and Leadership Greenville -- so he can educate his son.
