You begin with the idea of trying to project images on your hand, you finish with a magnifying glass, a shoebox, a tracing paper in U. It's really basic, rustic, really hard to play with. (I can't move my left arm anymore. Ok, not really but almost. Ok, I can). But I really like the texture it gives. (I only added contrast, nothing else and cut ,when possible, the part of the picture where we see the shoes box)

If you don't understand what I'm saying about that "shoebox" go watch the photo on Flickr (if not showing under the ad, here : flickr.com/photos/remyyy/2113242909/ )

Music : All India Radio - Four Three

(Conversion killed the nuances at the place of the projection of the magnifying glass. Not the case in the original, I think, so download for "better" quality.)

That looks great, I have to try it!
  • Remyyy plus 2 years ago
The thing I haven't made yet but would be great is a way to "attached" the shoes box to the camera because right now it's not really user friendly.

    great concept! awesome, really!

how big is the magnifying glass?
  • Remyyy plus 2 years ago
Thanks ! The diameter is around 4 centimeters.

This is a brilliant effect. Very dreamy. It's almost like pinhole video.
  • Remyyy plus 2 years ago
I don't know if this would be possible but it could be interesting to see. I'm afraid there would be a lack of luminosity though.
  • nshack 2 years ago
Yea, I'm sure it's not possible, very little light. I have used a pinhole body cap with my dslr and it takes a long time to get an image. You could do stop motion or time-lapse with it, however.

this is way better than after effects.

    great effect! love it.

Thanks ! If the image wasn't the opposite, I would replace my eyes with that. Really funny with lights.

    This is brilliant. Love it.

You "should" give a try sometimes.
  •
  • this is an analogue texture that cannot be capture digitally. that itself is astounding.
  • Remyyy plus 2 years ago
I agree that digital pictures are naturally or originally missing something, a life or something. Not always of course but in certain case.

  • hearts. This is lovely. I projected 35mm film through a cassette/film projector (the types where you watch the book and listen along with the tape)...and videod that it gave an interesting feel as well. But this is way more organic and beautiful.

You never cease to amaze me.

Will you upload that ? and ahah, thanks !
  • Yeah, definitely, I will just reshoot some stuff once break comes :-)

    Keep it up Rems.

Recording an image projected onto tracing paper by a magnifying glass inside a shoe box. Wow. Awesome effect.

GREAT! Nice Work. I'm playing around with the idea of pinholes at the moment, although with little success since projecting a pinhole image onto a focusing screen gives very little light, and my 1-chip CMOS sensor HV20 is a little Sunlight Hungry, I could barely see anything... I get great pictures of the sun though ;-)

I see that this video was also shot in widescreen? Maybe you could re-encode it with the new HD way and re-upload it with "replace video" so we can download the HD version?
  • Remyyy plus 2 years ago
In fact, it's not real widescreen. I just have hidden some part because we were seen the box too much. I'll see if it fits a widescreen aspect ratio.
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
Ah, ok, no reason to change it then! Thx.
