This was really good! I wasn't expecting to like it but I really did! Your quite the talent Jacob, cinematography and editing are one thing, but writing too? Nice! I would love to know what equipment you filmed this with.
    Take Care!

Visually terrific. Unfortunately, I have the sound off, so I can't say anything about the rest, but it really looks great.

Jacob Mendel, you have truly surprised me!
Cinematography of this film is very, very impressive.
The narrator did a superb job.

Lot of influences mentioned here, but I'd have to say that it was also very Casavete-esque, no? Very cool and nicely shot. The composition was uniformly flawless. Bravo

I enjoyed experiencing your "Waking Artist" vid. The man above who watched it without sound--I imagine the visuals alone are enough to sustain it and may try that myself. I am subscribing to see what you do next.

I thought this was fantastic, the only thing that bothered me was the narrator's voice, it sounded too casual.

It's good to see how you made Coney Island look fascinating even its time of destruction. That last shot on the sand is beautiful!

  • Great visuals, strong edit & a subtle yet gripping synopsis of the life of a tormented artist, blurring the lines between reality and fiction at times...or are they the same at all times? The mind of an artist is simple yet complex in its day to day conglomerate of emotions.

It's still strange to me how color, from these pieces, doesn't even lack anymore. The absence of color is quit comforting in fact.

Its interesting I thought that opening shot on the dude was actually spinning him around, surprising to cut to the wide to reveal he's in a train.

Very emblematic of nostalgia and dreams perhaps gone by. Wasn't Katfka also writting in the hunger artist about inability to eat or consume because of conditions in society? I find this short piece rife with questions about our current state of affairs as artists and humans on this planet. It was by no coincedence you decided to show coney island in the winter. Perhaps a metaphor for Eden lost/ childhood lost. And the broken umbrella the protagonist walked off with in closing shots reminded me of the movie "being there" with peter sellers the idiot savant character standing in for all of us.
Just my take. other than that perfection indeed
