The transit of Venus is a rare astronomical event in which the planet Venus becomes visible as a black dot passing across the Sun.
To discuss the transit, RiAus welcomed special guests Valerie Sitters from the State Library and Nick Lomb, consultant astronomer for Sydney Observatory and author of the book “Transit of Venus: 1631 to the present”. Valerie and Nick discussed the transit’s historic relevance and also the basic astronomy behind the transit itself.
