Students are protesting a 75% tuition hike over the next five years. The Liberal government led by Jean Charest answered with a special law limiting basic democratic rights such as the right of assembly. The special law has caused outrage within Quebec's population which answered with nightly "pots and pans" protest.
Students have shown a lot of creativity and are now more than a 100 days into their strike. On june 7th, students and many supporters organized a semi-naked demonstrations with the objective of disturbing the Grand Prix's activities held on Crescent street.
The riot-cops eventually pushed the semi-naked protest away from Crescent towards an outdoor show by pop-star Pierre Lapointe. A second student demonstration joined the scene as cops and protesters both walked awkwardly through the crowd that came to see the show. Later, Montreal's finest charged the crowd ; pepper spray was used and plastic (hard fucking plastic) bullets were shot.
