that Mark II is one bad DSLR. Its a shame its just a little on the shy side for video. I think the Gen II or Gen III versions in years to come might just beef up the video end. I am not really a big still guy, pretty much all video. But that was some nice comparison video. I have the S10 and love it. Pretty dam good for a consumer camera.

I disagree with you, Ed, Mark II rocks in video performance and it is a marvelous DSLR. Check out this vimeo.com/1830463 for example. I agree that HFS10 is great, I like it too.

The rolling shutter on the mark II is causing some issues on HD video. To the lay person, they may not see it all the time but its noticable. I think when Canon comes out with there firmware update, your going to see a nice increase in video quality. I think the D90 and Mark II have opened up a can of worms so to speak. I think in the next year or two your going to see some awesome things in these high end DSLR's that will make these cameras a must have tool for even us video guys. I am not saying there video is bad, its good, but could use some improvements. This year is probably the biggest year for camera technology improvements in the last 20 years. So in the end the D90 and the Mark II are great cameras. The updates they are scheduled for will make this camera a must have.

what is the "rolling shutter" problem?

Well let me first say I do not own the Mark II. I have watched a few interviews from some notable video guys, who have mentioned the shutter on the Mark II for video has rolling shutter problems. I have also seen in some of the videos made with a Mark II what they are talking about. Here is one videohttp://www.vimeo.com/2407572 granted this video panning is very fast, but I believe the operator is trying to capture the rolling shutter event. You can see the artifacts caused by the rolling shutter. This is due to the way the shutter operates, and the sensor is catching light at different angles at the shutter. If you google Mark II rolling shutter, you will find a lot of articles about it. Granted this may not effect most video, especially if there is no panning or very slow panning.

The bottom line, the D90 and Mark II are the best still cameras out there, and are pretty good at video. But lets face it. whenever you have a product that tries to cover stills and video, one is going to suffer. This is why we have still cameras and we have video cameras.

But as I mentioned before, the d90 and Mark II are still and will be more in the future; a good tool for video people. It's definitely a tool I wish was in my video tool box. And I am sure at some point I will be picking one up.

yeah the slrs have it the worst rolling shutter artifacts. BTW it is not just the slrs all video cameras with cmos sensors have rolling shutter artifacts, including the canon hfs100. The rolling shutter on the canon hfs100 and other canon cams are nowhere as near as bad as the d90 and mark II though.
