In the Palestinian neighborhood of West Jerusalem, a young couple cannot fulfill their dreams for the future. Conservative attitudes, economic hardships and the Israeli occupation thwart their plans.
This short film was shot on location in Beit Safafa, the only Palestinian village remaining in West Jerusalem. According to director Muayad Alayan, the village's rural character contrasts strikingly with the surrounding Israeli settlements and urban centers. Alayan overcame the obstacles he faced in making his film (such as a tight budget and a lack of access to equipment) by seeking support from those in his immediate environment. "Making a film in Palestine is like having a wedding: a director turns to close friends and family," says Alayan.
