Well done, Twyla! I only see 1 Lib. yard sign up here in Sointula, the rest are NDP. Very effective video - good for you. This coast (and the rest of BC) needs all the help it can get! Keep up the good work!
    Cheers, Vern & Shirley Sampson

Powerful, but does not speak to transportation issues such as the Port Mann Bridge expansion and South Fraser Freeway which the NDP support it seems but that will destroy Burns Bog, farmland and create other environmental , food security and health issues along the South Fraser.

PS I am Green Party Candidate - so this is an argument in favor of BC-STV as well right. Thanks for your good work on this.

    Good Job Twyla.
I feel similar to your opinions on the Liberal government here in B.C.
Good to see more of your work.

Mr Campbell said on this afternoon's debate that the rivers are only being tendered for 40 year water rights. This amounts to a defacto sale in that allowing the use of these rivers for private power production will provide for a customary use of the water by these producers - giving them a squatter right of possession of the water. All parties that believe in the right of the public to protect nature need to band together to ensure that the public interest is resurrected.

This confirms what we already know about the Liberals. I'd like to see Twyla take on the health care system too. There are now more private health care facilities in BC and still 5,000 beds short of the election promise & more higher death rates of seniors. We also have the higest rate of proverty for women and children in all of Canada. Then there is the big debt with the olympics and the homeless, and the new ferries that run at half speed and only take a few more cars ... on, and on and on.
Thanks Gordo, you should have stayed in Hawaii.

Thank you for this! I think we would all have a stronger chance at keeping BC green, healthy, and a viable mecca for tourism ( especially VI Island) if the Green Party would join forces with the more experienced NDP. They are really not that idealistically opposed.

Great pitch against the Liberals but too bad it became a predictable plug for the NDP -- a party that hasn't done much to protect our natural treasures (salmon farms introduced in 1984, NDP in power 1991-2001) If people vote Green then the NDP and Liberals can fight over their share of the status quo. And by voting 'NO' on the referendum we can tell the gov that the proposed change still isn't good enough - in fact it will make representational democracy in the province a joke - but I'll save that for another reply box. Let's give the Greens a go.

This is wonderful work. So few people seem to get that what they love about this province is its ecological wealth. As you point out early on, that is true wealth. I wish Gordon Campbell cared, but he does not. My hope for the people and ecosystems of BC is an NDP government for now and the passage of STV.

Fred, it's Warren Walker. I registered BCisNOTforsale.com and pointed it to this video. Pass the sitename to everybody. Great to hear from you after all these years.
BTW, Twyla, the domain name is yours if you want it.

Thanks Twyla. As fred bass points out, what makes this place on earth so special is its ecological wealth. I worked in the Alberta tar sands a number of years ago and I do not want to see an artery of poison connecting it to the coast. And if we lose our rivers to corporate greed this will most certainly become 'paradise lost'.

You've made several accusations, and you've done it in a very slick fashion. But most of it simply ain't true. Put under the microscope of facts, this video is pure Disney. As propaganda, it's excellent.

Michael, I love the great outdoors. there are dozens of areas offering pastoral valleys, some having mountain goats and sheep.
Do you know what some people from southwestern BC call 6 acres of elevated goat/sheep pasture? ... A. Convention Centre. Cram 5000 people inside and it's full. Remember, we could buy every one of those attendees a $200,000.00 condo and still save money.
The Liberals can read. The convention industry was already starting to decline in 2000 with the .dotcom crash when the decision was made to build it. Now we have another facility wanting a larger piece of a much smaller pie.
...For sure, we don't need to replace Port Mann bridge.
If you pull out a calculator, you'd find out that we could buy a Smart Car for each of the 75,000 drivers crossing the Port Mann every weekday, and still save money...probably enough left over to rebuild the Port Mann to the same standard the Lions Gate was, which was rebuilt to a 475-year earthquake standard. With smaller vehicles and more buses the traffic jams could evaporate.

BTW, the Coombs General Store has goats on their rooftop as a tourist attraction. Didn't cost a $Billion. It's time to think "out of the Box" and come up with innovative solutions.

A friend sent me the video, and I applaud the fact that you are trying to state some very important issues which need further action upon.
My only complaint, is that this video (altho credited NOT to have any political affiliation) is very one-sided.
I agree that environmental issues are at stake to a higher degree in this coming Provincial Election, however, there is no focus on exactly what the NDP plan's are, or their history while in power. Nor is there a focus on what the Green party's concern is to issues that aren't environmental (such as the current recession concerns). I don't mean to sound disrespectful, but there are many other factors to an election that must be accounted for, other than environmental concerns. Such as Economicl Stability, and Budget balancing, Job losses and new-job creation, etc (Not just issues related to habitat and tourism), Healthcare concerns, Educational issues, Transportation planning (current and future), Homelessness, Inner Province concerns, I mean the list goes on and on.
This video, is a beautiful spoke in the wheels running the NDP. ( or more accurately ... a video to focus on keeping the Liberals from re-election).
Perhaps if there was an equal focus on the other parties, and the other concerns (including what their platform stands for), it might not come off as being viewed upon as Propoganda. I appologize for the use of that particular word, as I can understand alot of work went into this production, but there should have been an additional set of information provided (with proof, not just headlines and allegations), to show exactly what all parties past, current, and future results have been or are expected to be.
As I mentioned before, Environmental issues are extremely important, and Must be addressed and acted upon, but this election is more than that. People are losing their jobs, homes, savings, and futures here in BC... and we need a government in place that will be successful on all fronts.I am not posting this to be Pro-Party for any of the candidates and their respected parties... I'm simply stating that there are many more issues that are of equal precidence to have made aware (on all parties), for an informed decision to be made and voted upon.
Be informed... then make your decision. :)

Twyla, while I very much share your concerns, I wish the video contained more specific alternatives. Also, we have to make choices recognizing the impact on other areas of concern.
As BC's population continues to grow, there is increasing demand for power, especially clean power. Whether a river is dammed by BC Hydro or by a private company, it is still a river dammed. Where is the alternative?
The percentage of our population over the age of 65 continues to grow rapidly. We are living longer and considering as basic rights medical procedures that barely existed a generation ago (such as knee and hip replacements). This is putting extreme pressure on medical funding. If we don't increase the revenue from our natural resources, where will the funds come from?
(Note to the person who is bound to suggest increasing corporate taxes: Where do you think corporations get their money from? That's right. Selling stuff to us. Increase their taxes and those increases will be added into the supply chain complete with markups all along the way which means we, the people, get more screwed than if we had just chipped in out of our own pockets in the first place. Beware the 'bait and switch' of those who profess the answer to every problem is to get somebody else to pick up the tab. It's always "us" who ultimately pays the bill).
