A little test video I did with my new Canon SX1IS in full HD. So far, I think it works pretty well considering its form and price range.
PROs: inexpensive backup HD video, may get you shots you couldn't get with a "big" camera where video isn't allowed. Nice depth of field and sharp focus.
CONs: artifacts in low light. auto white balance messes up shots (but I think can be turned off) and microphone picks up camera noises if you zoom or anything.

Very nice video. I like the dog shots.
Although I don't get your sentence: "...may get you shots you couldn't get with a "big" camera where video isn't allowed". I'm not a native english speaker :-) I'm thinking of getting a sx1 too. I love the versatality of the camera.
