This is the second part of Zapiro’s presentation at the Design Indaba Expo 2009. Published in 2008, Polokwane Pirates is Zapiro’s annual collection of his work and provides a comical, sharply satirical illustrated commentary on the performance of several key political figures, most notably Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma.

Zapiro is considered South Africa’s most prominent political cartoonist, having won numerous awards, and exhibited in group and solo shows worldwide. Zapiro was detained by security police in 1988, before taking up a Fulbright Scholarship in media arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York and in 2004 the University of the Transkei made him an Honorary Doctor of Literature.
